At the Cross

Have you ever thought about how you’ll die? If you could choose, how would you want to die? Recently, my mom had a friend to die she’d known since 4th grade. My mom is 90 years old, so that it a long time!

She died in her sleep. I think that would be the way to go. Just fall asleep perhaps never having suffered.

There are also very horrible ways to die. Ways we don’t even want to think about. Ones with so much violence, pain, and suffering.

Like Jesus did.

I don’t like to think about it. I have never seen the movie The Passion of the Christ. I have seen pictures, and that is enough.

But we have to go there. To the cross. To Jesus’ death. For it is at the cross we become one with Him. We meet Him in His death. We cannot, of course, go physically like Mary, John, and many others did. But we go spiritually, on our knees with thankful and open hearts.

We go knowing we don’t deserve to be even at the foot of the cross in the blood stained earth beneath. At the cross where we get mercy and the washing we need by Jesus’ blood.

At the cross.
