One of my sister’s favorite people in the Bible is David, and rightly so! He was called ‘a man after God’s own heart.’ That can mean different things to each of us.
This morning’s daily Bible reading was David and Bathsheba. David sinned greatly, committing adultery, murder, and trying to cover it all up.
But he was still a man after God’s own heart.
God sent Nathan to show David his sin. I wonder how David didn’t see it? How could he not see what he had done?
The same way we don’t always see what we do! How many times have we sinned and someone who loves us points it out to us? It is a hard thing to do, to listen as someone rebukes you. To not become defensive. To be humble. To be repentant.
We all sin. It’s a fact. I believe sins are equal in God’s eyes, but there are different consequences for each sin. Some of those consequences can be so light, we don’t even notice them. But some can be very severe as David’s was in the death of that child he had with Bathsheba.
I am thankful for those who love God and me enough to open my eyes where they are closed and I am blind to my sin. I am thankful for God who forgives me and loves me unconditionally even on those days I feel like Paul when he called himself ‘the chief of sinners.’
