Rock Bottom

June 11, 2023 by Laurel Burton Leave a Comment

When my kids were growing up, they loved to watch the show SpongeBob. To an adult it seemed like the weirdest cartoon about a sponge, starfish, crab, and a squirrel who all lived in the sea. The squirrel lived in a glass dome so she could breathe. They all had names, and most of the time the story was hilarious.

However, there was a place SpongeBob and his friends sometimes ended up that they didn’t want to be. Rock Bottom.

Anytime Spongebob and Patrick Star ended up in Rock Bottom, the audience knew things weren’t going to go well. But they always learned a lesson as they tried to leave, even if that lesson was just to be thankful they didn’t live in Rock Bottom.

It can be the same for us. Most of us have to hit rock bottom before we change. We try to leave before we’re ready, before God is finished teaching us a lesson.

Sometimes we have to learn lessons the hard way, and sometimes that way is God’s way.

When you’re in rock bottom, take a look around and ask God what lesson He’s trying to teach you.

Pray He shows you a way out when you’re ready.
