It’s Not a Game!

April 11, 2019 by Laurel Burton Leave a Comment

**Warning: You might be offended reading this one!!

My husband and I are always on the look out for good shows to watch. We love a good drama, and sometimes, I can even get him to watch a romance with me!

We had heard how good the show Game of Thrones was, so we decided to try it. We watched the first two episodes and decided that was two too many. We should have quit after the first one or even at some point into the first one.

Why do stations like HBO think they have to put in all the awful things to make a show good? It has a great story line and would be a really good show without all that trashiness.

We are constantly bombarded with mental trash. Some are so very hard to avoid. Some we can choose to avoid. I can’t help but think of Philippians 4:8 that says, Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

As Christ followers we are supposed to fill our minds with godly things not trash; be filled with things that are pure. Since so many times throughout the day we hear or see things we don’t want to, why do we purposely watch or put things in our way that aren’t pure or lovely?

We all do it. Sometimes it’s from an addiction, but most of the time it’s because we’ve become complacent. I know I have. I think to myself, it’s okay. I don’t really hear the words and I won’t say them. Or, I can forget those steamy scenes. But I’m lying to myself. Those words stick and those scenes are in my mind’s eye.

We need to learn to stand up and say an emphatic NO!

I know I fail at this and will fail. But I still need to try daily.

Don’t think the things of this world that we allow in our homes, lives, and minds aren’t helping to destroy the home, family, and the USA.

It’s time to take out the trash!
