It’s hard explaining to kids the difference between a want and a need. Often, we adults don’t get it either, buying anything and everything we want thinking it’s a need and will make us happy.
Perhaps we’ve told our kids, “That costs too much” or “The price is too high” when they’ve asked us for something.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says: Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. (NLT)
I’m sure nothing our kids ever asked us for and nothing we’ve ever bought ourselves compared with the high price of our salvation.
Why, then, do we live like God and Jesus paid nothing? Why do we not treat our bodies like the temples they are?
Just like everything we bought our kids doesn’t belong to them but to us, we do not belong to ourselves.
We have been bought and paid for with the highest cost ever.
Live like it!
