Spirits

I recently took a CPR/First Aid certification class. During those 2 1/2 hours, our instructor kept saying the victim is dead, so you need to…

This got me thinking. If we are dead when our heart stops, when does our spirit leave our body after death? I know if I keep trying to work on the victim to keep their heart beating until help arrives, I may be able to keep them alive. I also know that sometimes a person can be without oxygen for a few minutes and ‘come back’ to be alive.

Did their spirit leave them and come back? Maybe. Or had it just not left yet?

Maybe only God knows the answer to this. Maybe my feeble mind cannot understand it until I’m gone too.

I wonder when my daddy’s spirit left. Did it pass through me as I sat over him? Was he looking down on us as it left his body?

Weird thoughts that raise my curiosity. I’d love to hear your opinion especially you medical folks and those who have witnessed someone dying.

  1. I can’t say for sure what happens. We had a patient who told us who was doing CPR on him while we were coding him. No pulse, no respirations but could tell us details after several days of recovery on the ventilator.
