Time

February 10, 2019 by Laurel Burton Leave a Comment

Last night Chris and I were watching a documentary on Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. I grew up watching him. I remembered most of the clips they showed, and it brought back so many memories.

It also made me kind of sad. I was brought to tears at a lot of the clips, and it got me thinking. Where did the time go?

I don’t know about you or how you feel about this, but sometimes I feel like I’ve wasted a lot of the last 51 years. Maybe everyone feels this way if you allow yourself to really think about it. My sister has a favorite saying, “Shoulda, woulda, coulda.” Meaning there are things in life we should have done, maybe would have done, and could have done, but it’s over and past and there’s nothing you can do about it.

But is there anything we can do about it? No, it’s true we cannot go back in time. We cannot bring back those carefree days when we were younger. We cannot change the past. So, what can we do?

We can change how we look at the past, learn from it, and know what we are going to do in the future. We can become determined to treat people with kindness. We can realize that we can make changes in this world with acts of kindness even though we are just one person.

I know God doesn’t need me to get done the things He wants. If I don’t do it, He can use someone else. But I want to be more of a vessel for God, to look for ways to do His will and do things He wants me to do for Him.

I don’t agree with all Mr. Rogers’ theology, but I do agree with what he was trying to do with his show. He was telling kids they are special just for being who they are because they are made by God and in the image of God. I need to remember that about everyone, not just kids. Does it make us entitled? Yes, because we are made by God, but entitled to what? Entitled to work together to be what God intended us to be. His creation, His children, His love here on this earth.

I don’t know how much time I have left, but I do know I don’t want to sit and be depressed about it and waste it. I want to find ways to work and things to do, and most of all to be kind to others for Jesus’ name!
