Erasers

I have a confession. I love pens. Ink pens. I love all colors. The more colorful, the better!

When I was in school, we weren’t allowed to write with pens, probably because of all the mistakes we made. Pencils were the only writing instrument we could use, and it had to be #2! Remember them? Does anyone even know what #2 means? Enlighten me!

Recently, my oldest daughter showed me some new pens that are erasable! They really do erase! I wished we’d had these growing up. I love them. I have all colors, but green and pink are my favorites.

I thought about these pens when I came across a verse in Revelation today.

He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. Revelation 3:5 (New American Standard)

I know my name has been written in God’s Book of Life, but am I cocky enough to think it cannot be erased? What would it take for God to get out his erasable pen and blot my name out? Or perhaps God writes with His hand? He can do whatever He wants!

We call it ‘falling away.’ That time when someone who is a Christ-follower chooses blatantly to go against God. Maybe we all know someone who has chosen that pathway.

I pray that those who have fallen away will come back, and God will once again write them in His book. I pray those of us trying to keep the faith never get our names erased.
