Fractured

Once upon a time…

We’ve all seen them or read them. The fairy tale movies and books where the prince gets the princess and the ogre gets what’s coming to him.

If you don’t know, I teach library at a private school. I have done this for several years and enjoy it very much!

One of the lessons I teach is fractured fairy tales. I begin by asking the students how a fairy tale begins and ends. They all know the answers especially the girls. When I ask what they think a fractured fairy tale is they usually don’t know.

But they will.

Real life is not a fairy tale, at least for most of us. Maybe we do get the girl or guy, but life rarely turns out the way we expected our story to be.

Life is more likely for most of us a fractured fairy tale. A tale in which things are a little different and perhaps messed up from the fairy tales we grew up reading and read to our own kids.

But as Christ-followers, we do have a fairy tale waiting for us. We will have that ending we all want because we are a part of God’s story.

…and they lived happily ever after.
