On the Edge

This afternoon after work, I had to stop at the grocery store for a few things. Living in a small town, I almost always see someone I know. Sure enough, I saw two people.

But the one who made the biggest impression was the one I didn’t know.

As I walked down the isles, there were a lot of people restocking shelves. It was a great sight to see.

As I passed one older man stocking a shelf, I got a whiff of his aftershave.

I barely made it down the rest of the isles holding it together.

He smelled just like my dad. He used the same aftershave as my daddy did.

My dad has been gone almost 12 years. It is amazing how memories like that from smells, words, or other things can hit us and send our memories back 100 miles per hour so that we can barely breath.

I struggled to get through my grocery list and check out. When I got my groceries loaded and got in my car, I did lose it.

I let loose the tears that sometimes seem right on the edge.

I ended up praying. That is the only way I can get through times like this with memories flooding my mind.

I cried out to God. I asked for God’s peace. I asked for His grace. I asked for His strength.

How do people make it who do not have His help? He knows we need Him. He wants to hear from us.

Don’t just live on the edge alone. Let Him be on the edge with you.
