Found

I love some of the books by Jane Austen. Not only have I read them, but I’ve also watched the movies made from them. There are two especially. Pride and Prejudice has been made several times, but my favorite remake is the 1995, 6 hour miniseries with Colin Firth. The other movie that I love from her books is Sense and Sensibility.

One of the best scenes of Sense and Sensibility is Colonel Brandon is reading from The Faerie Queene to Marianne as she recovers from her illness. Perhaps it’s his British accent and the words combined, but it touches me. The lines are:

Nor is the earth the less, or loseth ought,
For whatsoever from one place doth fall,
Is with the tide unto another brought:
For there is nothing lost, that may be found, if sought.

They don’t make movies and men like that anymore. As I think about the men in those days and days past, how they were true gentlemen, I realize we don’t have many of them left today.

Then that leads me to ask myself, are there any genteel ladies left either?

There is nothing lost that may be found if sought!
