Home

What do you think of when you hear the word home? Do you think of a physical place? Where you live now? Where you grew up? Where your parents live? Or do you think of people? Your own family? Your parents? Maybe your grandparents? For many, it isn’t a pleasant place. Maybe you were abused in your childhood home and hate going there. Maybe you are being abused now and hate going home because you don’t know what is going to happen.

There are several definitions of home when you look in the dictionary, like a physical place or the main idea of something. But one that I like that is an adverb definition “deep; to the heart.” Home should be deep and in our hearts. I’m not talking about our physical home here; of course I’m talking about our spiritual home.

There have been a lot of songs written about home, both spiritual and secular. Some that tell us this world isn’t our home. Some that tell us, who says you can’t go home. One of my favorites is by Mercy Me called Finally Home. When we finally get home to our Father, our Daddy, what will we do? What will it be like? Picture your best time of coming home, maybe one you remember. Or picture the video you’ve seen of a soldier coming home to his or her family. It will be so much better than that! Our human minds cannot fathom how great it will be!

I think maybe we will sigh a deep breath and say, “Finally!!!”
