Broken

How do you feel today? Broken? Let me see if I can make it just a little bit better.

A few weeks ago, our preacher, Randy Owens, at West 7th St. Church of Christ, delivered a message that I loved. So, I’m going to take some of his ideas and express them here as they helped me so much!

He said we are all broken. We are all part of this broken world that has been groaning since Adam and Eve sinned way back in the Garden of Eden. Romans 8:22 says, 22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. The whole creation, including us! Because Romans 8 goes on to say, 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. Our spirits are inwardly groaning as we wait for Jesus to come back for us.

Don’t you feel it most days? It’s there trying to steal your joy and mine. Satan knows just where and how to hit us with it. That’s what he wants. He wants us to feel bad each day, not to let our light shine, not to let others see why we have joy even through the rough parts.

I’ve really been trying to work on this within myself. To think positive, to remember whose I am and what He did for me. To remember I may be sad, I have made A LOT of mistakes in the past, but I am forgiven. It’s time to move on and let Him repair me.

Randy also mentioned kintsukuroi. Have you ever heard of it this Japanese term? It is the neatest thing. The definition is mending with gold. The idea is to do more than just repair a crack. The idea is to showcase that crack with gold to show where and how it has been fixed. This is exactly what God does for us! He mends our cracks with His gold, and then we are able to witness to others and tell them what God has done for us.

I have mentioned in a previous blog the song “Just As I Am” and how some lines have been added that I love. There is a line ‘I come broken to be mended’ that goes along with this idea. We all should and do come to God broken waiting to be mended.

We have to remember, though, that being mended takes time. It may be that my whole life I will struggle with the mending. Maybe I’ll be broken over and over only to need mending over and over. But that is where God’s grace comes in for me. His grace is sufficient for me to keep on being mended by the blood of Jesus!

And it’s sufficient for you too!
